Sheet metal worker, and deacon in the Church of the Anunciation, Matthew Joseph was laid off from his job in Stockton, California, when the recession hit. Here he talks about living in a suburban neighborhood devastated by job losses, collapsing real estate values, and foreclosures. California’s Central Valley is one of the epicenters of the national housing bust; Stockton has been hit as hard as any city in California.
