Denise Juneau grew up on the Blackfeet Reservation, in northern Montana. She attended the State University of Montana as an undergraduate, and then studied at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. In 2008, she was elected superintendent of the Montana Office of Public Instruction, the first Native American to be elected to a statewide office position in Montana. Her focus is on increasing the high school graduation rates in low-income communities, and establishing community partnerships to shore up public education.
