The Voices of Poverty project has been made possible with generous help from the Open Society Foundation’s Special Fund for Poverty Alleviation. Special thanks to the staff of this fund for recognizing the importance of poverty in modern-day America, and for making available resources to work towards solutions to this crisis.

The Voices of Poverty is deeply indebted to a myriad of individuals, community organizations, and non-profits around the country who worked tirelessly to provide information about local conditions, who helped find people to interview, offered up space in which to conduct the interviews, and, when needed, provided translation help.

Above all, we owe a huge debt of gratitude to the many men and women around the country who have shared their stories. Their voices are extraordinary; their strength humbling.
